School Bus Monitor / Special Needs

Caring, compassionate individuals needed to assist school bus drivers during the transportation of special needs students to-and-from school daily and on field trip activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ideal candidate...
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Has a clean criminal history (background checks will be required)
  • Is compassionate and willing to learn and support our children
  • Can satisfactorily complete and pass all training and attend safety/in-service meetings in order to maintain qualifications
  • Possesses a high degree of attention to detail and considerable dexterity to safely use various types of restraints, secure wheelchairs, etc
  • Can relate to and work well with children, and maintain effective pupil behavior management
  • Has high-level professional and diplomacy skills to work with students, fellow employees, parents, and school district personnel
  • Exhibits strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Can lift and assist students when necessary
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Hours: Part-Time, Hourly, Mon-Fri
  • Demonstrate compassion
  • Assist in the safe transportation, loading and unloading of students with disabilities during bus routes
  • Be on time and complete all assigned bus runs
  • Complete training on bus lift operation, the securing of student wheelchairs in the bus and the securing of students into their seats with 5 point harnesses and/or other apparatuses that may be required
  • Complete training on student support and supervision during transit
  • Operate the bus lift to assist students on and off the bus
  • Collaborate with the bus driver during the bus route to ensure a safe and efficient bus run
  • Monitor student safety and needs during transit
  • Communicate relevant and important information about any occurrence on the bus trip to families and school staff
  • Follow all company and district policies
  • Be flexible to the pace and needs of the children and the program
  • Ensure compliance to all safety requirements
  • Maintain cleanliness of the bus, report issues, and keep inventory of cleaning supplies
  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior in working with fellow employees, supervisors, students, parents, and school personnel, always promoting company goodwill
