Golf Course Superintendent
Golf Course in Staunton, Virginia is looking for a Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Overview:
Responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the golf course and grounds. This includes, but is not limited to, agronomy, staff supervision, budgeting, and irrigation. Additionally, there will be long-term goals and projects set by the board of directors (BOD), that will be expected to be met. The position will collaborate closely with the General Manager to ensure the golf course is maintained to meet club standards. The superintendent is also responsible for ensuring that the golf course is in compliance with all environmental regulations.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Develops a yearly golf course maintenance plan for approval by the General Manager (GM).
• Prepares the annual maintenance budget and submits it to the GM for approval.
• Inspects the golf course daily and reacts to any issues as they arise.
• Applies chemicals and fertilizers according to established schedules and procedures.
• Oversees course maintenance staff and manages staff schedules.
• Oversees greens watering schedules to ensure proper moisture management and overall health.
• Interviews and selects staff members in compliance with club hiring policies.
• Ensures proper repair and maintenance of all equipment.
• Takes corrective action as necessary to help assure that budget goals are met.
• Recommends improvement plans for the golf course.
• Maintains drainage, irrigation, and watering systems.
• Oversees repairs of water lines or valves and may perform necessary repairs in an emergency.
• Determines cart path rules and whether the course should be closed due to weather conditions.
• Meets with the greens committee and GM as scheduled.
• Provides a monthly report with information as dictated by the BOD to the GM.
• Attends management staff meetings as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the General Manager.
Requirements:
Degree in Agronomy is preferred.
3+ years’ experience as a golf course superintendent or assistant superintendent preferred.
Pesticide Applicators License, Commercial Not for Hire is required.
On site knowledgeable employee can assist in training as needed.
Compensation:
$60,000 – $72,000 per year.
