Job Summary: The America Reads Tutor – Esperanza (Bilingual) position provides meaningful, part-time employment for Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) students who qualify for Federal Work-Study. Tutors support elementary-aged children—primarily from bilingual (Spanish-English) backgrounds—in reading and literacy development. Working closely with the Esperanza school community, tutors foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for students. Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities: Provide one-on-one or small group reading instruction to elementary students, both in English and Spanish as appropriate Support classroom teachers with literacy-related activities and assignments Serve as a positive role model and mentor, encouraging student growth and confidence Track student progress and maintain accurate, confidential records of tutoring sessions Attend required training sessions and check-ins with program coordinators, if applicable Uphold school and college policies regarding professionalism, confidentiality, and conduct Minimum Qualifications: Must be enrolled as a student at Salt Lake Community College Must qualify for Federal Work-Study (FWS) funding Must be bilingual in English and Spanish (spoken and written) Passion for education, literacy, and working with children Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently Able to pass a background check if required by the school site SLCC Information: Salt Lake Community College is Utah’s largest open-access college in the state.
