Structural Engineer Job Summary POWER Engineers is seeking a Structural Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Portland office located Lake Oswego, Oregon. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (candidate will need to live within a commutable distance of the office).
Responsibilities The Structural Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with POWER's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the department goals, maintain POWER's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.
- Performs all aspects of substation structural design, including preparation of steel performance drawings, fabrication drawings, and foundation design
- Development of steel and concrete construction specifications, cost estimates, engineering proposals, and project schedules
- Understand and incorporate typical structural code requirements
- Coordination with all disciplines contributing to electrical substation design
- Preparation of calculation packages to satisfy client and code requirements
- Perform QA/QC for deliverables to clients
- Support Project Manager and Project Engineer with project reporting needs
- Support proposal development
- Support the mentorship and training of other team members
- Shall understand and adhere to client standards and processes while working individually or within a team to complete complex and technically challenging designs
- Occasional travel will be required
Required Education/Experience - BSCE (Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering) degree from an accredited college
- 4years structural design experience
- Mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detail
- Finite Element modeling experience; Risa3D or STAAD Pro
- Familiarity with structural analysis, concrete design, steel design, soil mechanics and foundation design
- Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and size
- Ability to perform calculations to size steel structures and concrete foundations
- Proven ability and desire to mentor and help others
- Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
- Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience - Seven (7) or more years of experience in structural engineering
- Seismic design experience
- Experience with RISA, MathCAD, LPile, and STAAD are beneficial
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam
- Professional Engineering license (PE) or the ability to obtain licensure and ability to obtain licensure in multiple states
- Ability to successfully participate in multiple projects concurrently and manage budgets and schedules
