Overview

Académie Lafayette, a K-12 French immersion public charter school in Kansas City, Missouri, is looking for a school building custodian. The custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment within the facility. This includes cleaning, sanitizing, and minor maintenance duties in and around buildings, ensuring that the facility is well-maintained and presentable.

Status of Position

This is a full-time position with Académie Lafayette. This is a non-exempt position pursuant to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Reporting

The School General Maintenance person reports to the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize restrooms, break rooms, and other common areas.
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust floors, carpets, and surfaces.
• Empty and dispose of trash, recycling, and waste bins.
• Refill supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, and soap dispensers.
• Perform minor maintenance and repairs, such as replacing light bulbs or fixing minor plumbing issues.
• Maintain cleaning equipment and report any necessary repairs.
• Follow safety protocols and use cleaning chemicals and supplies appropriately.
• Assist with setting up or arranging furniture and equipment for events.
• Perform seasonal cleaning tasks, such as window washing or floor waxing.
• Maintain the exterior of the building, including sweeping walkways, clearing snow, and removing litter.
• Report any damages, hazards, or security concerns to management.
• Follow schedules and checklists to ensure all areas are properly maintained.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivelant preferred.
• Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, chemicals, and equipment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Good time management and organizational skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
• Ability to perform tasks requiring standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

Work Environment

• Indoor and outdoor work in various conditions.
• May involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and debris.

Other Requirements

• Must undergo and pass the MACHS Federal & State background check
• Must register with the Family Care Safety Registry and consent to a report being shared with the organization.
