TITLE: Research and Extension Associate for Community Health & Wellness Program DEPARTMENT: College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources REPORTS TO: Principal Investigator (PI) CLASSIFICATION: Staff-12 months EFFECTIVE DATE: TBD STANDARD WORK HOURS: 37.5 hours per week EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-Time EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Exempt JOB SUMMARY: The Research and Extension Associate will serve as a lead support person to assist the PI, staff, and students to perform research and extension work in Community Health and Wellness projects of the College of Agriculture, Health and Natural Resources (CAHNR). The chosen candidate will (with limited supervision) assist in developing relationships among small, limited-resource and minority farmers (SLRMF), extension agents and other project collaborators. This candidate will assist in advancing community interest in skin cancer and other malignancies that are generally curable with early detection. The candidate will work with research team and students in data collection, collation, design and delivery of workshops, and assist in manuscript and annual reports preparation. The candidate will supervise undergraduate and graduate students as appropriate, present results at state and national conferences. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist the PI and Co-PIs and other support staff in designing research and extension activities, mentor, supervise and lead undergraduate and graduate students.
- Assist the PI and Co-PIs in implementing Capacity Building Grants, and other externally funded projects.
- Conduct collaborative and independent research and extension health and wellness activities in order to optimize the timely delivery of project results and outcomes.
- Help manage survey delivery to SLRMF, workshops and focus group engagement.
- Training of and administration of survey instrument by extension agents and students
- Record and maintain data in proper spreadsheets
- Participate in manuscripts preparation and professional presentations
- Help develop proposals for external funding.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Practical experience in research methodology and basic biostatistics or statistic in epidemiology
- Ability to work effectively, independently and collaborate, as part of an interdisciplinary team, with excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Analytical ability to include computer skills, statistics and analysis of databases.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with problem-solving expertise
- Ability to maintain concise and accurate records.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision, but cooperatively (teamwork) with others.
- Must be able to manage multiple projects/priorities.
- Good organizational skills
- Some experience publishing in peer-reviewed journals
- Ability to perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Job will require travel and some fieldwork (interviews, site visits, meetings, conferences, and/or in-person workshops) within the state of Kentucky and continental US.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- This position does have limited supervisory responsibility as requested.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of a BS (MS degree preferred) in agricultural/biological sciences, public health or related field; 1 or 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities outlined above.
- Demonstrated strong community-engaged qualitative and quantitative research skills.
- Demonstrated expertise in agricultural safety and health, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines.
Licensing and Certifications: NA WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Occasionally requires heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects over 50 pounds.
- Work environment involves some exposure to inclement weather, hot or cold conditions, hazards or physical risks, which require some basic safety precautions.
- Driving ability is an absolute requirement
