You will work on projects ranging from commercial ships to luxury yachts, ensuring that all designs meet client specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety standards. This position requires a deep understanding of naval architecture principles, as well as the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and efficient vessel designs.

  • Naval Architect Responsibilities*
  • Vessel Design & Development:*
  • Lead and contribute to the design of new vessels, including hull form development, structural design, stability analysis, and propulsion systems.
  • Prepare detailed design drawings, schematics, and 3D models using industry-standard software (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, SolidWorks).
  • Collaborate with marine engineers and other specialists to integrate systems and ensure overall vessel functionality and performance.
  • Engineering Analysis:*
  • Perform hydrostatic and hydrodynamic analysis to evaluate vessel stability, resistance, and propulsion efficiency.
  • Conduct structural analysis to ensure the vessel’s strength and durability, complying with class society regulations and safety standards.
  • Utilize computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) tools to optimize vessel designs.
  • Regulatory Compliance:*
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant maritime regulations, class society requirements (e.g., ABS, DNV), and environmental standards.
  • Prepare and submit documentation for regulatory approvals and liaise with classification societies as needed.
  • Project Management:*
  • Manage design projects from concept to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate with clients, shipyards, and subcontractors to ensure that project milestones are met and client expectations are exceeded.
  • Provide technical support during the construction phase, including reviewing shipyard drawings, conducting inspections, and addressing any design-related issues.
  • Client Interaction:*
  • Work closely with clients to understand their requirements and translate them into innovative and practical vessel designs.
  • Present design concepts, progress reports, and final designs to clients, incorporating their feedback and making necessary adjustments.
  • Documentation & Reporting:*
  • Prepare comprehensive design reports, technical specifications, and project documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of all design activities, calculations, and approvals.
  • Naval Architect Position Requirements*
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture
  • Working knowledge of ship building rules and regulations, as well as classification society and Coast Guard requirements
  • Propulsion and steering design knowledge
  • AutoCAD competency
  • Rhino competency
  • Knowledge of AutoHydro (or GHS)
  • Valid driver's license, US passport, already working in the U.S. and TWIC card (or ability to obtain)
