NWIA is seeking an experienced Medical Records Specialist to join our team located in our Augusta office. 

The Medical Records Specialist requests medical records via fax or phone, then organizes and maintains records both in paper and electronic systems. Some of the data they manage includes patient information, medical histories, physician exams, test results, treatments and services provided. The Medical Records Specialist must follow best practices for security and patient confidentiality and are responsible for the safeguarding of clinical records and activities utilizing professional standards of care and Company Policies & Procedures. The Medical Records Specialist will also oversee and order office equipment/supplies and interact with vendors for orders and maintenance calls. They will serve as the liaison between the Company and medical offices, physicians, and the public. They will act professionally, with the utmost respect and customer service. All Medical Records Specialist must display a strong commitment to the company’s vision and strive to promote a positive image within the community.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform a variety of administrative duties including but not limited to, following up on records via phone, fax, and email
  • Adhere to HIPAA policies & guidelines for the physical security of medical records and protected health information
  • Understand medical records, tests, pathology results, etc. and input notes in database ensuring correct documentation
  • Demonstrate professionalism when interacting with medical facilities as a representative and liaison for NWIA
  • Builds rapport and communicates effectively with all Company staff
  • Abides by and promotes all Company Policies & Procedures
  • Participate in training and education as it relates to your position. Be knowledgeable of company policies and procedures
  • Ensures that the Company’s structure and chain of command is observed by.

 

Education, Training, and Skill Recommendations/Requirements:

  • Knowledge of medical information and terminology
  • Excellent phone, computer and computer skills
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Six months experience in the medical field
  • Excellent customer service to all internal and external customers
  • Excellent writing, organizational, and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, prioritize, and function in a team environment
  • Must possess a professional, courteous, compassionate and customer-oriented demeanor
  • Must be discrete, trustworthy, and possess a high level of integrity
  • Ability to travel if required and assist clients with appointments as needed
  • Valid state driver's license and insurance required
  • Abide by and promotes all Company Policies & Procedures
