Position OverviewThe Lead CVT performs all duties of a Certified Veterinary Technician plus additional supervisory and leadership responsibilities. You will support doctors in delivering exceptional medical care, guide and mentor the technical team, maintain hospital standards, and help create a smooth daily workflow.
This role is designed for a compassionate technician who leads by example and believes in building a culture of trust, wellness, and continuous improvement.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesAs a Lead CVT , you'll help champion teamwork and smooth operations. Responsibilities include:
• Covering shifts or rearranging schedules when team absences occur
• Managing back-staff schedules, PTO, and vacation requests
• Attending doctor or management meetings as needed
• Demonstrating strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills
• Applying critical thinking to workflow, staffing, and medical processes
• Monitoring, ordering, and managing inventory—working side-by-side with the Inventory Manager to prevent stockouts and avoid overstocking.
• Reconciling and maintaining Controlled Substance Logs
• Training, supervising, and supporting team members in technical and client-service duties
• Providing feedback, recommending personnel actions, and assisting with performance evaluations
• Ensuring all staff obtain their required CE credits each year by monitoring progress, providing reminders, and supporting access to appropriate educational resources.
• Modeling fairness, unbiased decision-making, and emotional intelligence
• Mediating interpersonal concerns within the technical staff
• Ensuring OSHA, DEA, and regulatory compliance
• Monitoring hospital safety, equipment maintenance, and radiology safety
• Ensuring monitoring and surgical equipment is functioning and properly maintained
• Supporting workplace wellness by uplifting others and offering help proactively

CVT Technical ResponsibilitiesAs a Lead CVT, you will also perform the full spectrum of licensed technician duties, including but not limited to:
Client & Patient Care• Admitting and discharging patients for outpatient and inpatient procedures
• Filling prescriptions, taking vitals, and preparing vaccines
• Providing clear, compassionate client education and written discharge instructions
• Discussing treatment plans and financial estimates professionally and confidently
• Performing emergency triage: hemorrhage control, oxygen support, CPR, airway management
• Monitoring ICU patients, administering treatments, placing catheters & calculating drug dosages
• Collecting blood, urine (including cystocentesis), fecal, cytology, and other samples
• Running in-house diagnostics and preparing samples for outside labs
• Understanding proper radiographic positioning and safe radiation practices
• Inducing, monitoring, and recovering patients under anesthesia
• Assessing anesthetic risk and communicating with the DVM
• Assisting with surgical procedures, instrument care, sterilization & autoclave usage
• Maintaining surgical suite cleanliness, crash cart readiness, and inventory
• Performing dental cleanings, charting, and taking intraoral radiographs
• Maintaining dental equipment and ensuring safe/appropriate use
• Maintaining accurate, thorough, and professional medical records
• Documenting all treatments, communications, recommendations, and declines
• Using hospital software for reporting, scheduling, and document preparation
• Maintaining confidentiality, compassion, and professionalism always
• Ensuring exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgery are clean, orderly and properly stocked
• Monitoring biohazard protocols, MSDS documentation, and safety equipment
• Keeping all staff informed of potential safety concerns or needed repairs
• Maintain positive, collaborative relationships with team members
• Seek continuing education opportunities in both technical and leadership skills
• Avoid gossip—support a culture of respect and wellness
• Maintain active licensure and professional memberships
• Stay updated on industry trends, advancements, and best practices
Compensation & Benefits
Pay Range: $28 – $33 per hour , based on experience, credentials, and leadership capability

Job Requirement
• Must hold a valid CVT License
• Arrives ready, on time, and professionally presented
• Loves working with animals—even when they’re scared, painful, or stressed
• Remains calm, efficient, and composed during emergencies
• Mature, strong communicator, and well-spoken
• Works collaboratively with all hospital team members
• Excellent client communication and education skills
• Able to lift animals over 40 lbs with assistance and perform physically demanding tasks
• Comfortable working around odors, noise, bodily fluids, and potential zoonotic risks
