Kellogg Biological Station (KBS), Hickory Corners, Michigan. Remote option available. Number of positions: one -½-position at 20 hours/week Stipend/Compensation: Please see MSU graduate assistant’s stipend ranges at Duration: January 12 – June 1, 2026 Application Timeline: Application review begins Monday, December 1, 2025. Position Description: We have grant funding to support a Research Assistant (RA) in spring 2026 to revise and update GALS program materials. Responsibilities will include managing logistical and organizational tasks and incorporate the RA’s experiences and expertise. This position will be co-supervised by Jackie Gerson, an adjunct faculty member, and Misty Klotz, the education and outreach coordinator at KBS. About GALS: Girls on outdoor Adventure for Leadership and Science (GALS) is a free summer science program for female-identifying or gender non-conforming high school students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in STEM, and all are welcome to apply. To learn more visit galsmi.weebly.com . During GALS MI, participants spend two weeks engaging in hands-on science and developing their own research projects while backpacking. We are currently updating the Michigan program to launch its second year at the KBS starting summer 2026. Specific tasks will vary throughout the semester and will include: Advertising the GALS program to students and leaders Maintaining GALS Michigan website and social media Communicating with students, parents, leaders, and speakers Assembling trip-specific gear Updating program materials Compiling participant paperwork and trip logistic paperwork Leader Training Weekend at KBS May 16-17, 2026 Attend Student Orientation Hike at KBS on May 30 or 31, 2026 Qualifications: Graduate students who have completed at least one year of graduate study at MSU are eligible to apply. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and possesses excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Applicants should demonstrate genuine enthusiasm and commitment to GALS’s mission. Please note: This position can primarily be done remotely with the exception of two weekend events. There will be an opportunity to continue this work through a summer fellowship or as a trip leader.
