Schupf Art Center, downtown Waterville, Maine. Job Summary The downtown gallery assistant position provides a positive and welcoming presence for visitors of all ages, supports public visitors to the gallery, and ensures smooth logistical and administrative operations as well as adherence to security and safety protocols. Reports to the Museum’s Learning and Engagement Coordinator and works closely with the museum security manager and engagement team. This is a part-time role, up to 20 hours per week, with required evening and weekend hours aligned with operating and programmatic hours. Ideal candidates are punctual, friendly, detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to prioritize a wide variety of tasks by asking clarifying questions when needed. Offer a positive and welcoming presence for visitors, providing excellent customer service and informational assistance related to exhibitions and programs in the gallery and Schupf Art Center. Monitor gallery activity and ensure visitors adhere to museum protocols and policies. Maintain alertness for unusual or suspicious activity; respond to incidents as necessary, including first response in emergencies; report security violations and write incident reports when needed. Serve as liaison and primary point of contact to the Schupf Art Center’s building manager to ensure smooth operation of gallery space; report facility-related needs or emergencies and keep the security manager and deputy director informed. Collaborate with learning and engagement staff on logistics for public and academic programs; communicate with internal stakeholders, prepare resources, and track visitor information. Provide logistical support for program execution, including setting up event spaces and coordinating with guests, visitors, and colleagues; includes evening and weekend events. Contribute to a hospitable environment for guest speakers, tour groups, and school visit needs during gallery visits. Provide logistical support for downtown programs, workshops, and training sessions involving community members, students, teaching artists, interns, and other student workers. Participate in regular meetings with engagement colleagues and Waterville Creates partners to coordinate operations and events at the Schupf Art Center. Assist the Mirken Director of Learning and Engagement and Mirken Coordinator with special projects, such as data compilation for grants, updating documents, and preparing program materials. Support engagement team with administrative tasks, ensuring office and artmaking supplies and interpretive elements are stocked and functional. Support the engagement team through software, data management, and registration tools.
