Summary of Purpose Oakland Community College is seeking an instructor for a new Dental Assistant Program. The instructor will be responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of students in the didactic, clinical, and skills lab arenas. The part-time instructor will provide quality education for students and perform instructional-related duties and responsibilities in accordance with the philosophy, mission, policies and procedures of the program and college. This position works in a fast paced, multi-cultural, diverse working environment.
Typical Duties This position includes didactic, clinical, and skills laboratory teaching opportunities. This position may include day and/or evening hours. This list is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all of the duties and responsibilities that may be required:
- Collaborates in the development of new curriculum, instructional materials, and evaluation tools; reviews and updates course outlines, textbooks, and syllabus for courses.
- Teaches courses and maintains written instructional standards; facilitates instruction using alternative delivery methods as needed; participates in the assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Demonstrates proper techniques in dental procedures such as chairside assisting, radiography, sterilization and dental office management
- Applies and maintains standards of quality operating methods, processes, systems, and procedures; implements changes and integrates knowledge of professional training to continuously improve program quality.
- Works collaboratively with students, colleagues, and staff members to integrate instructional activities and materials.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
- Ability to work additional hours, as needed.
Knowledge and Skills Required - Academic preparation and experience in the delivery of innovative, evidence-based instruction in Dental Assistant education and other health professions at the community college or university level or equivalent.
- Ability to engage collaboratively and professionally with colleagues and students to ensure the successful achievement of student learning outcomes.
- Experience in actively engaging students to think critically while participating in the learning process.
- Demonstrates leadership in academic and clinical settings.
- Ability to work as a team player in a multi-cultural, diverse working environment.
Minimum Education and Experience - Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) or Registered Dental Assistant credentials (RDA)
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a dental assistant
